I should be scrubbing toilets....

but I'm not.* My parents arrive tomorrow night. They'll be staying with us for just over two weeks. I'm thrilled beyond words! I can't wait to see them. Once upon a time, I would have vigorously scrubbed everything in the house from top to bottom. But today, I can't quite muster the interest. Perhaps it's because I don't think they'll notice anything other than Peanut. They're definitely coming to see me (we have a really great relationship) but their first grandchild? The granddaughter they haven't seen in almost 11 months (well with the exception of the amazing powers of video calls and s.kype)?

Yeah, I don't think I need to worry too much about a little dust!

Oh, and I'm having FAR too much fun playing Blogger Bingo!!!

*Although I will be cleaning the toilets later. I'm just procrastinating at the moment. In fact, the toilets aren't the problem. It's those tile showers. How the heck do you clean them (a) without getting soaked in the process (b) with a sponge? I've just never figured it out and it bugs the heck out of me.

  1. Have a great time with your parents - that is wonderful that you get to have a good long visit with them (although I also have a great relationship with my folks and no visit is ever long enough for me). You definitely don't need to worry about a little dust!

As for the tile showers, I recommend something abrasive like Vim or Comet if you're using a sponge. Baking soda works great, too, if you're all crunchy like me! I just spray the whole shower with water, turn it off, get in there with whatever stuff I'm using to clean, and then rinse afterwards if necessary. If you use baking soda, put some plain white vinegar in a spray bottle to rinse - it works great and dissolves all the grit.

Oh, I'm such a dork. But I really love talking about cleaning. Doing it, on the other hand, is something else entirely...

  2. How exciting!! Eleven months, wow. They will be shocked at how much she's changed... even though they've seen her on the computer. My parents are eating up every second with Bean! We aren't doing anything (which is driving DH crazy -- he wants to play tour guide) but they are so happy. And so is Bean!

As far as showers, I got nothing. Annacyclopedia seems to have that covered. I *hate* cleaning showers, and I'm horrible at it!

  3. WEEEE for blogger bingo! Although I'm behind with ICLW this week. Oh and the Ink tour Kristin is doing. WHEW! I may have over filled my plate this week.

Have so much fun with your parents! Cleaning is over rated and I'll bet you're right. Your parents won't care or notice.

  4. Yay for parents! I bet both you and them are so excited!

With the shower thing, Cowboy usually does that job (thank goodness) but he uses a scouring pad like one you use to clean pots at the kitchen sink. And he uses an old toothbrush for the tricky bits!

    Have fun with your parents.

  5. Bwaaah! Smelling toilets but reading great posts. It's definitely a trade-off.

  6. Glad you get to see your parents! I'm sure they are going to be over the moon to see Peanut! Enjoy your time with them. :-)

As far as the shower goes. I do it one of two ways, the first is to get in and shower. I use that natural one made by Scrubbing Bubbles, since it doesn't smell too bad and won't hurt my skin. Then, I just hose things down while I am in there. If I'm not in the shower, I use the sponge to clean things and then get a cup. I fill the cup, tilt it towards the wall, and let the water glide down to rinse the shower. It keeps me from getting soaked!

    Again, have fun!
